If you're interested in this book, and over the age of 16, move on. Find something new.. this book is not what you want or expect. My review will contain 'major' spoilers of the (very few) plot points in the book, so if you haven't read it and are going to... don't read this. Or if you make the better decision of not reading it, but want to know why it's bad; go right ahead!
A season of Eden is a book about an "18 year old girl" who acts like she's 13. She is rich, popular, self centered, and trampy. Whenever you begin to see a slight redeeming quality in this girl (I.E. actually saying something nice about the girl with medical issues) she immediately turns around and says something that completely condescends it. God, I hate this character. Anyway, she immediately (No, really. It takes about 5 seconds) falls in love with James Christian, the new music teacher.
Mr. Christian is... a religious character. A moral character. He's boring and odd and.. I don't know what. He's 22 teaching music at a high school.. because he took CE classes when he was in high school.. AKA They wanted to make the age difference a little more acceptable because 6 years age difference is far worse than 4.
The first 60 pages are spent with Eden being in love with Mr. Christian. She goes to his classroom every morning to help him pass out papers and to pray he brushes up against her. And then finally, without any prior notice, Mr. Christian says that it would be okay for them to go to Starbucks together. And they do.
Que 50 more pages of them doing the same exact thing, when eventually they agree to meet at a beach.. in California.. where apparently absolutely every single person leaves when the sun begins to go down.. so they are alone. And he kisses her. And 10 seconds into the kiss she starts freaking out because she begins to realize how promiscuous she is and how terrible of a person she is and oh god why is she such a big tramp and oh no her life is ruined and... meanwhile, Mr. Christian is sitting there staring at her as she begins to cry after kissing him, she stands up and runs away, he runs after her, she doesn't tell him why she's crying, they leave.
And that's the end of that part. I guess he forgives her immediately? Doesn't care enough to ask? She never really comes out and tells him the true reason of her crying, just sort of a roundabout explanation.
That's all that happens until about 200 pages in. They end up at the empty Church where Mr. Christian teaches church..students.. I guess. He plays Eden a song, tells her that he wrote it for her. She swoons. And then in a flurry of uncharacteristic "WTF'isms" he pushes her against the piano, starts making out with her and then pulls out the one super hot pick up line that has been in his arsenal since he was 13: "I want to play you.... like an instrument."
In the heat of the moment, even I was caught off guard and mistook that for sexy. I was ready. I wanted this duo to finally connect in the ways they have been hinting at for 200 pages. Eden loves it, she grabs him and kisses him.. and then Mr. Christian says "Stop. We're in my church." Excuse me? You brought me to your church. You played me this amazing song and then YOU started kissing me and telling me slightly creepy pick up lines.. and now you want me to stop? Die.
Needless to say, Eden feels rejected. She gets sad on their way home and then makes some completely justified snappy quip at him after he acts like she's the one being stupid.. and he gets mad. They make up 3 days later, but that's the end of their relationship for the entire book. You can just stop reading because all that happens is she graduates and goes to his church to try and reconcile. /END BOOK.
Seriously? I guess I should have paid more attention to the fact that this has no "Adult Content" sticker on the back or something, because it's obviously made for teenagers to teach them some sort of lesson.. or something.
The book is full of characters I do not care about. A heroine who is stupid and obnoxious and a male lead that doesn't know what he wants and doesn't really care. I didn't even care about the girl who has no hair and seems like she's about to die at the end of the book.
Not to mention the exaggeration of an 18 year olds use of the insult "Retard." This is probably the most annoying thing in the book besides the sexual frustration. This girl calls everyone retarded or says they're acting like a retard or whatever. I cringed every time I read it.
Moral of the story: If you're in a student/teacher relationship, wait until after graduation to go beyond making out in churches.

A Season of Eden JM Warwick Books Reviews
I'm so mad that I wasted four hours reading this book straight last night when I came home from work. The writing was decent, and the story had the potential to be awesome... but every time it was about to go over and enter into the "Oh my god, I have to keep reading" phase, the author would step back from the jump. However, me, being the book lover that I am, kept reading. I just thought "she's going to take the plunge, it's going to happen, this book is about to get amazing." Except it didn't. I was left on the last page and my final words were "WTF?!" It was like she just up and left the book unfinished. I kept thinking of what my creative writing teacher would tell me last semester, "Leave your characters in a room, LOCK the door, and don't let them come out until it's over!" Eden and James need to be locked up in that music room and not be allowed to come out until something is freaking resolved.
The Cons
*The other characters were more reminiscent of junior high kids, than young adults.
*Unsatisfying overall
*Insta love
*James walked a fine line between sensitive and just plain being a woman- seriously, a pink shirt?
* Inconsistent writing- first James is 22, then he's 21. Edens mom died 10 years, then it was 12.
The Pros
*Great tension/ build up... but that's all it was- you're left hanging
*I liked Eden. At first I thought she was a complete bitch, but in the end I saw what she truly was- a girl just trying to grow up.
*The church scene- right when they are about to leave after James has played for her... yeah, that was pretty hot.
Overall
This book gives off the impression that it's a romance. In fact, it gives that impression through out the whole entire thing until you reach 97% of it and then you realize the author is going to change the direction on you. So, 97% of it IS romance, the other 3% is coming of age. But it's the LAST 3% and that's what's important because it's the ending! I felt ripped off a little. I really was starting to love the story, but it needed to go to the next level. Right now, I can just compare it to a bad lifetime movie.
