This book had a lot of potential for me and I really wanted to be able to enjoy it. I could not connect with the characters at all despite my best effort to do so.What I liked
- Time travel
- Dragons Shape-shifters
What I didn't like
- The way Jill (main protagonist), has to constantly make quips about every thing she sees to relate them to her own time. It's awkward and unrealistic in both the references and frequency.
- Both characters seemed to lack any curiosity. No questions about the future and no questions about dragons.
- Awkward physical attractions and moments. From Jill's virginity being inspected to being approached in the forest while urinating, it just seemed unnecessary.
-No sense of mortality. Jill doesn't reflect on her life at all once she arrives in the middle ages. Not her family, friends, town, pets, etc.
- There wasn't enough detail that pertained to the visual of a dragon.

Fire of the Dragon Bestiary Series Volume 1 Lori Dillon 9780615801216 Books Reviews
A fairytale for adults, Fire of the Dragon is a thrilling page turner of a novel. With a Beauty and the Beast type theme, it chronicles an amazing adventure that includes all that you hope for in such a tale.....dragons, maidens, time travel and an evil witch. I found myself sucked right into the fantasy and couldn't put it down until the conclusion. What a roller coaster ride of imagination and passion this was!
I was not sure what to expect at first. Browsing through to find something different to read, I picked this one and was caught up from the beginning. Totally enjoyed the read and ignored the family for two days. You can't help but fall in love with the man behind the dragon. I even enjoyed all the characters to be honest. I am looking forward to the next book and hope the author keeps me coming back for more. Enjoy!
A twist in a tale of heroism and daring-do! It is the girl who made a vow to except the challenge to save the knight! A vow she initially broke and found herself in 'hot' water from which she had to be rescued! Because, in order to meet the challenge, the two must work together and along the way they fell in love! I enjoyed all the action, the humor of Jill and comrades, Roderick and Owen. I can't wait for Roderick's story!
The grammatical/editing errors are all that prevent me from giving this a five star rating. Fast-paced, the story had me hooked even though I found the heroine annoying. Very annoying, but also believable. The "Olde English" usage wasn't consistent or even accurate, but that can be overlooked; if you're looking for historical accuracy, I don't recommend turning to a romance fiction novel. The editing errors were a distraction and interrupted the pace of this otherwise well woven tale of a modern woman sent back in time to free a noble knight cursed to live as a dragon, the very creature he loathed and hunted. The ending was a bit abrupt and the character Clo and her connection to our heroes remains a mystery, so I'll be keeping an eye out for Roderick's story and hope to see some closure there.
In a word...magical. When Jill is given an unusual tapestry by an odd little woman, she's transported back in time and becomes the "virgin" sacrifice to a dragon knight, Baelin, cursed by the Dark Witch. The curse can only be broken by a maiden willing to pass three tests. I loved this story! Watching the love blossom between Baelin and Jill keeps a reader turning the page to find out how two people living centuries apart, can conquer evil and bridge time to be together.
Amazing. I'll definitely be looking for the rest of this series!
I was very hesitant to buy this book. I love time travel books but when I read the synopsis I thought "A dragon? Seriously?" And almost didn't buy it. Lucky for me, I didn't see anything that grabbed my attention and so on a whim I bought it. It was a great read with interesting characters and good plot development. I read it in a day and put off doing errands so I could finish it. If I had to give it one critique, it would be that the author didn't develop the protagonist enough. I would have loved to hear more about the Dark Witch and maybe more about other dragon-knights beyond the slight mention of them. The Dark Witch was one dimensional, that being said it wasn't her romance. All in all good summer read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
Seems as of late all the paranormal books out there are depressing and the same ole thing, brooding man, strong woman.
This book was a refreshing change, loved the writing from the start, characters were interesting and had depth. I will read more of Ms. Dillon, PLEASE write more soon!
Thank You for writing a story that made me smile, frown, yell at the book and made my husband ask "WHAT ARE YOU READING?".
In the past I could read a book while watching TV with my husband, while reading this book I tuned everything else out, that's how good it is!
Buy this book, this is a story you do not want to miss, now what am I going to read while waiting for Book #2?
